ISNET/CRTEAN Training Course on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Imagery: Processing, Interpretation and Applications
3-14 May 2010, Tunis, Tunisia
I contribute to this international training course as a trainer. The course was held from 3rd to 14th May 2010 at the AL Hana International Hotel in Tunis, Tunisia. I was the trainer of the SAR Interferometry part of the course from 11th to 14th May and I traveled there from 10 to 17 May 2010. The program was organized and conducted jointly by the Centre Regional de Télédétection des Etats d’Adrique du Nord- CRTEAN (Regional Center for Remote Sensing of North African Countries) and the Inter-Islamic Network on Space Sciences and Technology- ISNET.
I presented four theoretical lectures and three practical workshops for four days. The trainees were twenty people from Tunisia, Senegal, Libya, Sudan, Iraq, Syria, Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Bangladesh while the Egyptian trainees were missing. They were the experts and researchers of the relevant remote sensing and GIS authorities, organizations and academic sector of their own counties holding PhD and MSc degrees in remote sensing, image processing, electronics, computer, communications. The topics that I trained were on synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry (InSAR), differential InSAR (DInSAR), SAR persistent scatterer interferometry (PSInSAR), SqueeSAR, SAR applications and case studies. Thirdly, I have to emphasize on some points that you disregard and ignore. If you pay attention to the title at the top of the page you will see clearly that it is about the TRAINING COURSE on synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery focusing on processing, interpretation and applications of SAR data. This training course aimed at making familiar the trainees with the concepts, developments and ongoing status of the InSAR, DInSAR and PSInSAR techniques and the related applications. Therefore different examples and samples from leading papers, presentations and works of the dignitaries of the technology were given in these four TRAINING/EDUCATIONAL presentations to cover the whole existing situation. I have also to mention that nearly half of the images used in the presentations are the product of my personal work while as you can see easily it is never referred to in the power-point presentations. It was not in the scope of these TRAINING/EDUCATIONAL presentations to talk about the people involved in developing those technologies. The presentations were not talking about the achievements or results of the work of a specific person; they were only trying to talk on concepts, developments and status. They were not of course the presentations for promotion or talking/reporting/reviewing the results of the work, research or achievements of any person involved in these technologies. Perhaps if you were present personally in those training sessions you would see yourself that at the beginning of each oral presentation I pointed out the above mentioned thing. I am confident that you did not KNOW this and I hope that sharing this KNOWLEDGE with you will be USEFUL and certainly will relieve you a bit at least. Good luck.
