ACTION TEAM NO. 1

 

Develop a Comprehensive Worldwide Environmental Monitoring Strategy

Action Team number 1 of the Implementation of the Recommendations of the Third United Nations Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Sopace (UNISPACE III) was established by the Committee of Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) in June 2001. The team member nations (24) were Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belarus, Brazil, China, France, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Mongolia, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Portugal, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Syria, UK, USA. European Space Agency (ESA), International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS), Manila Observatory, Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs- Statistics Division, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the United Nations International Drug Control Program (UNDCP) were also the member organization (9+1). Aquatic Ecosystem Health and Management Society (AEHMS) joined the team a year after the team establishement. The interim chairs of the team were Iran, Philippines and Syria, while Philippines withdrew and the team held its first meeting on 1st March 2002 in Vienna, Austria with the joint chairmanship of Iran and Syria. Russian Federation contributed to the chairmanship of the team a year later. Since 2004 Iran singly has chaired the action team. Since its establishment I have worked in the position of the chairman of the action team on behalf of Iran. The list of the action team meetings is seen below.
